I met this beautiful Venezuelan Mother and Daughte

I met this beautiful Venezuelan Mother and Daughter recently.

Like ~30% of the people living in our ward, they were born overseas and like ~20%, they speak a language other than English at home, Spanish.

We spoke about what's happened with the recent Venezuelan elections, how lucky we are to live in Australia and the importance of our healthy and transparent democratic process 🗳️

A big effort by 3205 Beach Patrol today 💪

We focused on plastic bottle tops and I found over 12. There's a real challenge of picking up smaller pieces of plastic when it's mixed in with sand.

@beachpatrolaust does an amazing job of organising groups to tackle our litter problem on our beaches.

More must be done at an industry and government level to address the problem at source.

Last night we attended the annual meeting of the P

Last night we attended the annual meeting of the Port Phillip Citizens for Reconciliation. What an amazing group of local residents! They work tirelessly to support the peak indigenous organisations to promote Reconciliation and did a wonderful job in supporting the YES campaign last year.

We also spoke with Professor Andrew Gunstone, who authored 'Reflections on the Voice' and shared his thoughts on the action still needed to support reconciliation.

Within a few minutes of speaking, his smile and attitude helped me on Saturday.

He told me about the concept of 'Wu Wei' in Taoism. It helped me realise I couldn't change what happened to the print out of my candidate statement and I let go of the stress around it.

This is the power of a community. I love it when the universe brings in someone to help brighten my day ☀️

Clarendon Street needs to be revitalised to attract more people and businesses. Behind me are the historic verandahs that were restored thanks to an investment by the last Council. It means these verandahs will continue to celebrate South Melbourne’s architectural history and provide shelter for businesses and shoppers for many more years. I will work hard to support further initiatives that will continue to revitalise this historic Main Street.

Beautiful sunny morning speaking with the community at South Melbourne Tram Stop. Everyone was in an upbeat mood, even the birds! ☀️🐦

It was a great opportunity to reflect on how much I appreciate the 96 tram line.

A priority in my plan is to work with the state government to ensure that trams can continue up Park Street to ANZAC Station. This will greatly improve public transport flow to and from South Melbourne so that it supports residents, workers, tourists and business.

The first has benefited from Council's investment in an upgrade to play equipment, the later will be done by August next year.

Great to meet Danielle, secretary of South Melbourne Sustainability Group, at today's Foundry Park Community Garden working bee.

The garden has flourished since I was here a month ago and I learnt Bokashi composting from local residents is a factor behind the growth 🌱☀️

I'm looking forward to having some fresh greens for my dinner tonight! 🙏
